Norrbotten Big Band with Nils Berg, Composer in residens

What happens if you stick the shovel in the hill and dig a little in the dirt. Finds seeds, roots, other plant parts and ingredients and places them on a harvest table. Rearranges, plays for a while, adds his own and puts it back in the ground. Watering, waiting. Looks. Is something Norbottnian growing up then? And how does it SOUND in such cases?

This is what woodwind player Nils Berg is asking himself before the prestigious task of composing for the Norrbotten Big Band in 2024 as Composer in Residence.

- I want it to be a meeting, he continues. A tripartite meeting between me, the band and the Norrbothnian tradition. That we get to draw parallels and play with metaphors. And then watch what happens and what actually comes out the other side.

Nils was born in Gothenburg but has had Stockholm as his base for many years. Cross-genre collaborations glow like a red thread through his career. Along with the place in Håkan Hellström's band, outings together with world artist Fatoumata Diawara, the Cullberg ballet and Nina Persson stand out.
