Wave Cycles - a musical expedition
Wave Cycles - a musical expedition Classical cello meets electronic sounds in music inspired by the expeditions of the Linné disciple Daniel Solander.
Cellist Johanna Sjunnesson performs together with Mikael Lind, Iceland, musician and composer of electronic music. In 1772, Solander's ship approaches the coast of Iceland after the voyage to the Arctic. Glaciers and snow-capped mountains tower up. The rugged nature and the waves hitting the beach's black lava sand create a sense of mystery. The waves in Wave Cycles are associated both with the waves of the sea, which still today shape the black stones of the beaches, but also with the Wav files with sound waves that the musicians send across the Sweden-Iceland sea. The song Remnants Unveiled has parts from the hymn Den Blomstertid nu kom, which the priest's son Solander could very well have hummed during his long expeditions to explore nature and plants around the world. The concert gives an insight into the 18th century's exploration of nature and the world. Solander's encounter with barren and cold climates was not unproblematic, as a couple of his fellow travelers died of cold during an expedition. Today we have other challenges regarding the climate and need to do everything to protect nature from human conquests. With the concert, the musicians want to celebrate the progress of science and keep in mind that we now need to use science wisely.
