ORGAN CONCERT - MEG HARPER
Meg Harper from the United States will be visiting Studio Acusticum and will play a mixed program of several contemporary works that utilize the special sound effects of the organ.
Works by Buxtehude, Rebecca Groome Te Velde, Tom Johnson, Jeanne Demessieux, Arvo Pärt, Marcel Dupré, Nicolas de Grigny, Wolfgang Stockmeier, and Serge Arcuri.
Margaret Harper is the music director at Trinity Episcopal Church in Princeton, NJ. At Trinity, she oversees a distinguished episcopal music program, including several choirs that have released critically acclaimed recordings over the years.
Before coming to Trinity, Margaret served in churches in Texas, New York, Illinois, and New Hampshire. She was the founding manager of RSCM-America’s Dallas Boys Course and the founding director of the Choir School at St. John’s in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Margaret also has an active career as a soloist and guest conductor. She has been praised by The Diapason magazine for her “impeccable” playing and by the Boston Musical Intelligencer for exceptionally vibrant, impactful performances.
The Croatian newspaper Glas Slavonije writes: The biting cold of a January evening dominated the cathedral in Djakovo, but it could not diminish the richness and warmth of the sound that Margaret Harper produced from the cathedral organ.
Summer concerts in 2024 took her to England and Germany, and the 2024-2025 season will include trips throughout the United States and to Sweden. Margaret has also been active as a teacher at Baylor University and the University of Southern Maine, where she taught organ and harpsichord. Margaret holds a DMA and a Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music.
She has held leadership roles for various chapters of the American Guild of Organists, the Association of Anglican Musicians, and the Royal School of Church Music - America. She has presented papers and given recitals at conferences for several national organizations, including the American Guild of Organists, the Organ Historical Society, the Association of Anglican Musicians, and the American Bach Society.
