If one or both of the pupil’s legal guardians have a language other than Swedish as their mother tongue and that language is used in daily communication by the pupil, the pupil can receive tuition in that language if he/she has a basic knowledge of the language.
The municipality will only arrange tuition in the mother tongue if there is a suitable teacher and at least five pupils want tuition in the language.
The municipality has a duty to organise tuition in the mother tongue for the minority languages of Sami, Finnish, Meänkieli, Romai Chib and Yiddish even if there are fewer than five pupils. Tuition assumes that there is a suitable teacher.
Tuition is available to pupils in compulsory and upper secondary school.
Swedish as a second language
If necessary, tuition in Swedish as a second language shall be arranged for pupils who have a language other than Swedish as their mother tongue. The Head Teacher decides if the pupil needs tuition in Swedish as a second language. Tuition is available to pupils in compulsory and upper secondary school.
