Children aged 1-5 whose parents work, study, are unemployed or on parental leave are offered places in a preschool. There is a charge for having a child in a preschool.
Children whose parents are unemployed or on parental leave have access to preschool 15 hours per week. The public preschool for children aged 3-5 is free of charge and available 15 hours per week.
After-school centre
We have after-school centres for children aged 6 to 12 whose parents work or study. The parents/guardians pay a fee for the child to be at the after-school centre. The after-school centres are located in connection to the school premises.
Childcare during unsociable working hours
The municipality provides childcare for children aged 1 to 12 when their legal guardians work evenings, weekends or nights. No extra charge is made for childcare during unsociable working hours.
Who can apply for childcare?
Legal guardians of one or more children aged 1 to 12 who are registered in Sweden or are due to move to the Municipality of Piteå.
How do I apply for a childcare place?
Applications should be submitted in writing to the Child Development and Education Office three months before the child needs a place. When the childcare place is no longer needed, you should inform the Child Development and Education Office in writing.
Teaching
Most preschools have public activity. Some preschools work with special profiling, e.g., Reggio Emilia, I Ur och Skur or Montessori. There are six private preschools in the municipality.
