The municipality is a democratically controlled organisation. The elected representatives thereby have overall responsibility for the municipality’s activities.
Swedish democracy
Swedish democracy is a representative democracy. Elections are held every fourth year to Parliament, the County Council and the Municipal Council. Political decisions are made by elected representatives in the different decision-making bodies.
The elected representatives make decisions on a number of issues that affect everyday life, for example, within care, preschools and schools, the development of residential areas and the design of streets, squares and parks.
One way to influence the municipal activity is to use your right to vote. There are also ways to influence the elected representatives between elections, for example, by contacting them on the Municipal Executive Board or the Municipal Council.
