Piteå has a town library, a book bus and five village libraries in Hortlax, Norrfjärden, Rosvik, Sjulnäs and Öjebyn.
Reading a book for the first time is like finding a new friend,
reading it again is like seeing an old friend

The library offers
- Books, e-books, e-audio books, CDs, DVD films, audio books, language courses, talking books, newspapers, periodicals, video and computer games, etc, all of which can be searched for in our local library catalogue.
- Books that you cannot locate can be borrowed from another location, with some exceptions.
- You can book our group room or a time for an information search on the Internet or to work on word processing or calculations.
- You can also search in our databases. Some of the databases can be accessed from home by Remote Access – logging in using a library card.
Rules for borrowing and charges
You need a library card to use the library services. You can obtain a card by filling in an application and showing a valid photo ID. Children can have a library card from the age of six. For children up to the sixth year at school, a guardian must sign the library application. The parent/guardian is responsible for items borrowed by the child.
The library card must be presented to borrow an item.
When you sign the application, you promise to comply with the rules for borrowing:
- You are responsible for everything borrowed on your card being returned in time and in undamaged condition.
- Lost or damaged media must be replaced.
- To pay an extra charge if the item(s) is/are returned late.
- If you do not comply with the rules for borrowing, you risk being prevented from further borrowing.
- Remember that the library card is a valuable item. Report a lost card to the library immediately. The card will then be blocked so that no one else can use it, as you are responsible for any items borrowed on the stolen card until such time as you inform us.
- Report changes of name address and telephone number.
