A 10-minute drive from town, we find the residential area and district of Öjebyn. Öjebyn has a bit of everything, nature and tranquillity, but also more excitement and activities depending on your desires. There is the option to live in a rural and secluded setting, or you can reside in a housing estate or an apartment. In the town centre, there are two supermarkets, a bank, shops, and a café. Just outside the centre, you'll find more shops, as well as a library, a garden centre, and the popular bathing spot, Hamnviken.
Öjebyn is perfect for those with children of any age. There are several preschools and a school for grades F – 9. Furthermore, there's an agricultural high school suitable for those interested in farming, animals, nature, and the environment. There are many playgrounds suitable for both younger and older children. Öjebyn has a swimming pool with a children's pool, a swimming pool with several diving boards, a hot tub, a Jacuzzi, and a sauna. In the same building as the swimming pool, there is a sports hall offering various sports options and a gym.
There are ample sports opportunities in Öjebyn. Active associations for floorball, football, and handball can be found here. Öjebyn also boasts numerous football pitches for eleven-a-side, seven-a-side, and five-a-side football, as well as an artificial turf pitch. There is even an ice rink where you can go ice skating in the winter.
In Öjebyn, you will find one of the country's largest church towns with living church traditions. Here, there is a church with a bell tower built during the later Middle Ages, church cottages you can visit in the summer if you wish, as well as the S:t Mary activities and a café.
Every summer, Piteå's largest market, Kyrkmarknaden (the Curch market), is held here. Kyrkmarknaden offers activities and entertainment for both adults and children, such as live music, pony rides, exhibitions, a bouncy castle, and, of course, the market itself, which always offers a wide and varied selection ranging from handicrafts, delicacies, and confectionery to clothing, leisure equipment, and household items. Every winter, a Christmas market is also held at Öjebyn's church town. There are also opportunities for guided tours in Öjebyn's church town.
The municipality has plans to further develop Öjebyn by 2030. The plans include enabling the densification of new residences and businesses to enhance Öjebyn's attractiveness in the long run. Piteå municipality wants the green areas in Öjebyn to provide space for activity, meetings, play, exercise, and relaxation year-round. The goal is for Öjebyn to be a cohesive district that feels safe and pleasant to live in.
