Nurse Malin strengthens Piteå Hospital, and theatre technician Henrik is switching careers to become a wind turbine technician.
– We considered and explored several different cities along the Norrland coast. Our criteria were proximity to the sea, close to the mountains, good housing, and a place where we could have as much time as possible for family life and leisure. Piteå became the obvious choice!
One year after the Berg family from Vallentuna contacted Piteå's relocation service, we met for lunch at Piteå Stadshotell. The family has been living here for a month now. Malin, originally from Jakobstad, is a very welcome addition as an operating room nurse at Piteå Älvdal Hospital. Henrik worked as a theatre technician at the Dramatic Institute, but he is switching careers for a new adventure in Piteå.
– I'm going to start studying to become a wind turbine technician through Lernia! I love nature, and I'm both a technician and a nature photographer. It feels so right. The internship for the training is already arranged at WPS in Öjebyn.
The family is experiencing their most luxurious summer ever. They have had the time to explore Piteå together and have visited Gläntan and Kaleido, participated in the PRIDE parade at PDOL, experienced the mountains, and organized leisure activities for the children. Daughters Maija, 12, Tova, 10, and Fanny, 5, have started preschool and school at Norrmalmsskolan.
– I'm really good because I dare to be alone there, says Fanny carefree and mentions that she just celebrated her first birthday in Piteå.
Art enthusiasts Maija and Tova describe the new adventure as quite natural. The family had talked for a long time about moving northward, so it just felt right, according to Maija. This autumn, she will join the Hortlax scout group, while Tova has registered with the Piteå Figure Skating Club. Grandfather Lars-Erik is in Piteå to visit his son's family. He's not planning to move (yet!), but he's very pleased that they've landed in such a nice place. Lars-Erik observes that Piteå is very beautiful and welcoming. As a father and grandfather, it feels safe. During lunch, the family meets Piteå's municipal councillor, Kata Nilsson.
– Welcome to Piteå," Kata says delightedly. "We are so happy that you are here. I am especially pleased that you like art! Add me on Instagram, and I can follow you. Grandfather is also welcome to move here! Here, we welcome everyone.
As summer gradually turns into autumn, Malin and Henrik will begin their new careers. You can follow his beautiful Piteå on @henke710322, and next year, they will experience the fifth season of Norrbotten, spring-winter. The family recently visited Markbygden to see the impressive wind turbines.
– That's where Dad will work, I said!
